‘Gladiator II’ director Ridley Scott hits back at AI after calling it a ‘technological hydrogen bomb’
Ridley Scott promises incredible action with “Gladiator II” and it’s clear that he intended to use artificial intelligence to achieve his goal.
In a new interview with Empire Magazine, Scott said, “We’re starting the movie with probably the biggest sequence I’ve ever done. It’s probably bigger than anything in ‘Napoleon.’
“Gladiator II” comes 20 years after the first Oscar-winning film starring Russell Crowe, with Paul Mescal taking the lead role and starring Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington.
In the first trailer, Mescal’s character, Lucius, can be seen confronting a giant rhinoceros.
WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?
Scott told Empire that he combined a few techniques to create a giant monster.
“Computerization and AI, you have to accept it,” said the director of “Alien”. “I can have the computer read every molecule and wrinkle on the rhinoceros and cut out the thick plastic, completely the body of the rhinoceros, and then fix it in the shape of skeleton.”
The award-winning director did not specify what kind of “computerization and AI” was used or whether it affects the AI that produces in any way.
The “skeleton” was placed on an electronic doll and operated by digital commands.
“I’ve got this thing doing about 40 mph, spinning all of a sudden, shaking its head and screeching,” Scott told the station. “A 2-ton rhinoceros with a guy on its back. I mean, it’s pretty cool.”

There is also a sequence with a flooded stadium to create an underwater battle, full of sharks in the water.
Scott suggested to screenwriter David Scarpa, as it was something he wanted to do since the first “Gladiator” but felt that the technology was limited.
“Computerization and AI, you have to embrace it.”
“They wouldn’t have been able to pull off something of that scale and size, and now they’re able to do that. So, it was definitely something that we envisioned ourselves incorporating from at first,” he said.
Scott’s comment that you “have to embrace” AI appears to be a reversal of his earlier comments about the technology.

Last December, the director of “Blade Runner” told Rolling Stone that he was afraid of AI taking over society.
“We have to shut down AI. And I don’t know how you’re going to shut it down,” he told the agency. “They’re having these discussions in government, ‘How are we going to shut down AI?’ Are you kidding, you can’t lock it once it’s out, it’s out.
He continued, “If I’m designing an AI, I’m going to design a computer whose first job is to design another computer that’s smarter than the first one. And when they come together, then you get in trouble, because now it can take over the entire world’s electricity system and turn it off. That’s your first disaster.
The 86-year-old also spoke about AI in relation to the attacks on actors and writers that took place in the summer of last year.

“They really have to not allow this, and I don’t know how you can control it,” he said.
He added, referring to the AI that generates, “There is something unusual about the data. You will get a computer-generated image, but I like to believe – and I say this without conviction – that It won’t work with anything too special that doesn’t need emotion or spirit.
Fox News Digital reached out to Scott’s representatives for comment, but they did not immediately respond.
